{hi, I’m Ksenia!}

Saffron & Honey is a food and lifestyle blog focused on bringing a Provencal sensibility & joie de vivre to everyday cooking, living, & traveling. EAT CHIC!

Saffron & Honey originally started circa 2009, when three friends met in London. Pursuits of life and food took us all in different directions – mine being back to New York and towards culinary school – and s&h now resides here. You can look back on our archived adventures and have a laugh.

I graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education in New York in 2011 and now live in Greenwich Village with my dorky surfer husband, our little boy Henry and my calico cat, Twix, aiming to make life as interesting, slow, and beautiful as it can be (read more about my home here!). We are now also spending more time in Maui, Hawaii, beginning a new adventure in 2022. 

Like me, Saffron & Honey is always in transit, searching for color and inspiration in the things of everyday.

My family has made their home in France, and I shuttle back and forth. My French could always use some improvement! I love sharing French cooking, French products, and my fondness for the Provencal spirit with all of you.

I write about food, travel, and fashion, and I love cooking and tasting food in kitchens around the world. Currently, I am the NYC Editor at VRAI Magazine.

Join me along this journey to cook and live colorfully and to bring a piece of my beloved Provence to a small kitchen in NYC. It is documented daily on my Instagram account :).

This summer fruit crisp is a super simple recipe to remember: the batter is 1 cup of flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, and 1 stick of butter (diced and dotted on top) + 1 tablespoon of baking powder. Don’t skimp on the butter and don’t skimp on the fruit either! I love peaches 🍑 and blueberries 🫐 here, but plums and nectarines would also be great // use at least 4 lbs of fruit, though I tend to skew more towards 5 lbs myself, but this recipe is flexible. Macerate the fruit with a few spoonfuls of sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt, then pour the batter over it. Dot the top all over with the butter and sprinkle with some vanilla sugar, if you have it. Food is comfort and food is community 🩷 // and this soy-braised tofu made with @foodlandhi ‘s new Maika’i Tofu (made locally at Aloha Tofu Factory) is definitely full of those comforting flavors of home // #foodland75 #foodlandambassador #tofurecipes #mauistrong #maikai Recipe:
1 pack Maikai Firm Tofu
2 tablespoons soy sauce 0.5 teaspoon white sugar
0.5 teaspoon gochugaru
2 tablespoons sliced scallions
1 teaspoon grated garlic (I use a microplane)
0.5 cup water
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds for garnish (optional) // 1.Pat dry the tofu and slice into 1/2 inch thick pieces. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over the medium heat and cook the tofu for about 4 minutes on each side. 2. While the tofu cooks, make the braising liquid/sauce: whisk together soy sauce, sugar, scallions, water, gochugaru, and garlic. 3. When the tofu is ready, add the soy sauce mixture to the pan and reduce it slightly, basting the tofu in the liquid constantly; this will take about 3 minutes. 4. Take off heat, mix in sesame oil and sesame seeds into the sauce, spoon it over the tofu and serve hot or chilled.
