Farm Dinner at Maui Bees Honey

If you’re looking for a unique food experience on Maui, one that’s truly off that beaten path, set on a working farm and surrounded by all the beauty that Kula has to offer, then I am going to let you in on a little secret – the farm dinners at Maui Bees!

Filled with aloha and true farm-to-table spirit, Chef Scott London’s ever-changing menu grows with the seasons and makes the most of the farm’s bounty. 

On a recent night, we started off with a Honey Sampling Board – honeycomb from the Maui Bees hives, Dorsett Golden Apples, local goat cheese, and housemate fig crackers, followed by an actual Garden Salad, full of vegetables and edible flowers from the gardens just across the table.

This was followed by my favorite course – the Tomato Curry with housemade naan bread and a six minute egg.

There was also the gorgeous Macadamia Nut Breaded Baked Mahi Mahi with Carrot Gnocchi with Mac Nut Basil Pesto. The fish was caught by one of the farm’s owners as well. 

A sweet Strawberry Ice Cream intermezzo

Then, you walk over to the lanai to watch the sun setting over the West Maui mountains.. And enjoy the perfectly cooked Venison Tenderloin Sear with Stuffed Pumpkin.

The perfect finishing touch, as the sun set on the day, was the gluten free Chocolate Cake with Lilikoi Curd and vanilla ice cream – so luscious.

Then, you can finish off some of your BYOB and enjoy the last of the light before heading home.

This summer fruit crisp is a super simple recipe to remember: the batter is 1 cup of flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, and 1 stick of butter (diced and dotted on top) + 1 tablespoon of baking powder. Don’t skimp on the butter and don’t skimp on the fruit either! I love peaches 🍑 and blueberries 🫐 here, but plums and nectarines would also be great // use at least 4 lbs of fruit, though I tend to skew more towards 5 lbs myself, but this recipe is flexible. Macerate the fruit with a few spoonfuls of sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt, then pour the batter over it. Dot the top all over with the butter and sprinkle with some vanilla sugar, if you have it. Food is comfort and food is community 🩷 // and this soy-braised tofu made with @foodlandhi ‘s new Maika’i Tofu (made locally at Aloha Tofu Factory) is definitely full of those comforting flavors of home // #foodland75 #foodlandambassador #tofurecipes #mauistrong #maikai Recipe:
1 pack Maikai Firm Tofu
2 tablespoons soy sauce 0.5 teaspoon white sugar
0.5 teaspoon gochugaru
2 tablespoons sliced scallions
1 teaspoon grated garlic (I use a microplane)
0.5 cup water
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds for garnish (optional) // 1.Pat dry the tofu and slice into 1/2 inch thick pieces. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over the medium heat and cook the tofu for about 4 minutes on each side. 2. While the tofu cooks, make the braising liquid/sauce: whisk together soy sauce, sugar, scallions, water, gochugaru, and garlic. 3. When the tofu is ready, add the soy sauce mixture to the pan and reduce it slightly, basting the tofu in the liquid constantly; this will take about 3 minutes. 4. Take off heat, mix in sesame oil and sesame seeds into the sauce, spoon it over the tofu and serve hot or chilled.
