You’re never too old to be silly and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. People who know me well will probably tell you that I don’t need an excuse to be silly – and they would be right! Still, you can really only do it best in the right company who will tolerate you and keep you laughing til you’re crying (in my case).
This past weekend we partook in three activities that I think inspire significant silliness: doughnut-eating; apple-picking; road-tripping (to the rodeo, no less).
Believe it or not, this was my first time at the Doughnut Plant. We enjoyed an assortment of the signature cakey tres leches and the more giant melty Peanut butter & blackberry jam (Oh.My.God.), Almond, and Chocolate glazed doughnuts before our road trip.
Then we went apple-picking somewhere in the general vicinity of East Brunswick, NJ. The farmers’ stall at the farm had a lovely selection of jams, honey, baked goods as well as fruits and vegetables.
Much work went into finding the perfect apple among the many Gala, Mac, Red Del and other varieties. I had to fly to Moscow the next day, otherwise I would have spent it making apple pie, apple fritters, apple butter.. you get the idea.
Now I am here and eating a lot of things with beets and potatoes. Some cultural stereotypes are so true!
