I received the best 8th of March (International Women’s Day!) present recently. A bit belatedly, but it was very much worth it.
I got an old Russian cookbook published in the end of the 18th century. It is the Cook Book of Ivan Navrotsky and incorporates both Russian and numerous German-influenced recipes, 710 in total!
In Russian it is called:
Новая полная поваренная книга, состоящая из 710 правил, по которым всяк может с лучшим вкусом желаемыя кушанья приготовлять.
I spent almost an entire week reading the book. It is fascinating, amusing and educational all at the same time. It’s been restored slightly and is in ‘usable’ conditions but you still have to be quite careful with it.
I plan to concoct something that doesn’t require anything too exotic in terms of ingredients, and will report back in the near future.
