This is so delayed, it is almost embarassing.
However, I must say that even weeks and weeks on, it was an entirely magical and memorable experience. The sun was setting, the waves were crashing, and the food and service at the Chevre d’Or was cheerful and refined at the same time, which allowed us to have a fun (and entirely gluttonous!) celebration.
I never get sick of this view. Actually, it fills me with something akin to total glee.
We started off with snacks (rillette and various cheeses) and champagne, fit for the occassion, out on the terrace.
What followed was a 9-course dinner that was probably too much of everything. I apologize in advance because I forgot to get a picture of the mullet course, silly me. What can I say, I was distracted.
The restaurant kindly provided us with personalised copies of the day’s menu after our meal so, luckily, I don’t have to recite this from memory.
We started off with some delicious olive bread:
. . . and then moved on to dinner.
Sake sorbet, Ocetra caviar and relish
Britany langoustines, pistachio olive oil, maltaise sauce [a little sweet to my taste, also had gold leaf]
Grilled foie gras, old port sauce, granny smith apple
Bleu lobster, cherries marmelad infused with verbena [perhaps the best food photograph I’ve ever taken]
Mediterranean denti fish, smoked with fennel, anise juice [my favorite]
Red mullet, sauteed vegetables, Asian sate sauce
[no photo 🙁 ]
Black Angus beef, potato puree and candied onion [served in a marrow bone], bordelaise sauce
Local cheese Fleur de Chevre [very strong goats cheese], Christine Ferber raspberry jam
Religieuse [modern take on a classic] raspberry and rose, mascarpone sorbet – DIVINE!
Manjari chocolat, passion fruit ganache, chocolate and passion fruit sauce [birthday cake!]
Petit fours (including mint-chocolate marshmallows and fraise de bois and pistachio cream tart)
By then night was falling… Walking down the steep Eze hills was a bit of a battle.
A beautiful night – thanks to all!

And I did too! It was worth it, largely.
