I love Gail’s apple sourdough bread and their Russian rye bread is not too far from the original either! I also like that the place hasn’t gotten too hoity toity in the years it’s been around so far.
We went to the one in Clapham for brunch this past weekend and had: one giant chocolate chip cookie with sheets of chocolate baked in-between the cookie dough layers; coconut and pumpkin soup, so very warming; and a gorgeous vanilla & poached pear tart with many cups of tea.
I am so borrowing the idea of baking the stem in as well, how gorgeous!
