Time for French Fridays with Dorie again!
I am back stateside and as such back to the cream of farina in my pantry. We really enjoyed the caramel semolina cake as a family. At first I thought I should have made more caramel (so it would be floating in it, basically) but the flavor was intense enough for the delicate cake.
Very simple and delicious with tea and breakfast. Next time I will also add some candied fruit (edited to add – in the second batch, I did add some candied lemon & orange peel, reducing the amount of raisins – also delicious!). It was also great with a dollop of creme fraiche/sour cream.
By the way, caramel got voted ingredient of the month, which is very exciting. I have a great simple but surprising citrus and caramel recipe coming up.
So yummy!!!
Thanks, we loved it! Making a fresh batch right now:)
yum! i was kinda late on posting mine as well. 🙂
Your beef daube looks great! Wondering whether to make that or the speculoos next week. Or both:)
I’m glad you are getting things made…doesn’t matter if you are behind a bit. Life gets busy but I enjoy learning from and sharing with all the group…and I like to think about the past recipes too. It actually made me happy to know that someone out there (you) is not discouraged by getting a little late on making a recipe…and if I am looking at blogs late at night it is fun to find more posts about things I am interested in. This past week many were a bit late but all great to read.
Thank you for the encouragement, Krissy! I am always very happy to see what others are making too, week in and week out.
Looks delicious – I like your additions of candied lemon and orange peel.
Thank you!
This cake was a favorite of mine – not something I would serve as a birthday cake, but a wonderful everyday dessert.
And as a person who is always chasing the clock, even though it pains me when I am late, I can tell you not to worry. This is supposed to be fun, and not pressure:) Enjoy!
And I love the color of your caramel:)
Thanks, Lana! Yours looks great too:).
Agree, it’s a lovely and light everyday option.
Yay! I still need to make this one too. Yours looks delicious.
Thank you! Made two this week:).
I always have cream of farina lying around, I should give this a try!!
It is delicious and very delicate when baked – seems fairly healthy (minus the sugar:)) too!
