Easily one of the best tastes of summer, tart cherries are also such a reminiscent taste of childhood, reminding me of jumping up to grab the cherries off of a tree in my grandparents’ backyard.
You have to try this recipe. In fact, I insist! It’s full of such pure flavors and the perfect pairing of creamy goat cheese, tart fruit, and mildly spicy pink peppercorns.
Tips: NB! Prepare the goat cheese spread with enough time so that you can chill it overnight.
Make enough for yourself and for guests too, as this makes a lovely starter on crisp wholegrain crackers or rye bread.
Cherry and goat cheese spread
You’ll need:
- about 1/3 lb mild French chèvre, at room temperature
- 2 T pink peppercorns
- 1/2 cup tart cherries, pitted
- pinch of sea salt
- 2-4 T amber honey, to serve
1. Pit the cherries and cut them in half. Lightly crush the pink peppercorns with your fingers.
2. Using a spoon, fold in the cherries, a small pinch of salt, and the peppercorns into the goat cheese. With the back of the spoon, gently press the cherries into the cheese (which should be soft and at room temperature). Press the cherry and goat cheese spread into a square dish or container. It can be anything, really, just not too deep.
Cover tightly with lid or plastic wrap.
3. To serve, spread a generous tablespoon or two on a piece of toasted bread and drizzle very lightly with honey.

Love this! Actually I love everything you post. 🙂 But I’m so into chevre at the moment. And how perfect with tart cherries. Our cherries are just coming into season. Yay!

Thank you, Karista! I am rarely not in a chevre mood 🙂

I have yet to come by sour cherries where I live, but this sounds like a lovely apéritif! I am sure it was delicious!

It was hard not to eat it all at once! 🙂 Thank you, Darya!

I really love this…you must get tired of me saying the same thing each time. 🙂 But I think we have compatible taste buds. This is just right up my “best of” light, but substantial spreads. I love goat cheese and could eat it with nothing added, but cherries? My goodness yes!!

More than happy to share similar tastes with you, Debra! I think you will absolutely love this.

A lovely combo of those fresh summer flavours. Very simple, yet delivers so much result! Alas cherries are a long way off yet, (for me!) but I’ll certainly try this combo, especially as I love the idea if combining those pink peppercorns in the dip too!

Thank you! I really think the pink peppercorns add the right zing!
