I know this post is very belated, but as we work to get through the January dooms-and-glooms, it’s nice to remember that Christmas – such a happy time – was not long ago.
On that note, in the not too distant past, Minyi hosted us for a fantastic Christmas dinner at her house!
I am trying to remember everything that we had, but it was almost to the level of Hunan-style amounts.
We had lettuce cups with chicken; little tartlets with prawn, mango and avocado; and sweet potato fries. There was also a sumptuous stew, almost like a Beef bourguignon but made with lamb, if I remember correctly (if I don’t, Minyi, correct me. And please post the recipe, it was divine!).
Priya made delicious oreo cheesecake cupcakes and we had very classy Ribena + Veuve Clicquot cocktails.
The best thing for me though was the lovely atmosphere that you never wanted to leave. We all got each other lots of cookbooks (that we then proceeded to peruse ourselves) and – so exciting! – mortar & pestles :).
Thanks for a wonderful celebration, my fellow S&H-ers.

hi k, yes i will post the popiah (lettuce wrap) and lamb osso bucco recipes as soon as i manage to type it out…the lamb osso bucco resembles beef bourguignon in taste in part because both recipes call for pretty much the same ingredients (carrots, onions, bay leaf and wine). THANKS for writing abt the xmas dinner – reminds me of the period where it is ok to eat excessively…..why cant we do it all year long? Oh, wait – I already do that! 🙂 X m
