So due to this volcanic ash thing, we’ve been ‘snowed in’ in London and have had to cancel our gastronomical adventure in Lyon. Ah, no Saint Marcellin or salted caramel chocolate. But we’re planning a Chinatown grocery trip and perhaps a Dorie cookie extravaganza to make up for it.
Want to join in on the cupcake vs the new cupcake (macaroons or whoopie pies?) debate? Personally, the ease of eating something is not a determining factor for me, the taste and texture – in which I find cupcakes and macaroons to be preferable – are more imperative.

My vote is for macaroons – same argument – sheer texture alone wins it for the macaroon (mm taste that chewiness!). Although minus one for the pastel colors – its Easter colors and I won’t have it. Strange – pastels seem so very un-Parisienne.
Did you go on that Dorie cookie extravaganza?
saffronandhoney says
No, we didn’t get a chance to. The weather was too nice and we were outdoors (eating) a lot.
I agree in principle, but now it’s ingrained in terms of macaroon colors – I can’t for the life of me imagine one in black/grey/white. Maaaaybe navy. With little white crispy ‘pearls’.

It’s true – and how would you know what flavor it is? The color assists with the deduction – although I never would have guessed passionfruit as I bit into one orange macaroon today. Delicious though!
saffronandhoney says
oooh passionfruit. It’s true though – new colors, new flavors and that’s never a bad thing!
