What makes for a very French breakfast? A little bread and jam and a lot of coffee.
The quintessential French breakfast is small and simple:
- coffee or tea
- fresh bread or a croissant and jam or honey
- perhaps, a juice as well
Don’t be mistaken though – the petit déjeuner may be small (as its name says), but it mustn’t be rushed.
On long weekends, like last weekend, I like to read the paper and indulge in a very leisurely breakfast.
I may make myself more than one coffee and I may even dunk some bread in it (I don’t know how French that is, but I like it!). There is nothing like the smell of a fresh baguette – I prefer to get a “half” demi (small baguette) to share over breakfast.
{p.s.} you can receive a selection of French essentials – including jam, juice, honey, and other French breakfast goodies – by subscribing to the Bon Appetit Box. I gave it a try this week, and it was delicious!
