Now I know that we all love to visit actual farmers markets, some London listings for which are provided in our Weekend Guides. But how do we feel about virtual farmers markets? You can’t touch or smell the produce or banter with your friendly neighborhood tomato seller (negative) but you still get to support local farmers who may not otherwise reach you (positive).
The online farmers market (VFMUK) here in the UK has a fairly good selection – including ‘world foods’ – that seems to be growing. Apparently, you can even launch a 3D marketplace on the website though I can’t get it to work at work:).
VFMUK has received a lot of press recently for its ‘breakfast boxes’. I think they could do with working with more smaller suppliers, but I understand that the process is just getting started and that’s great.
