Bacon! What can I say – from real life experience, it is enough to make a man propose marriage.
I got the idea from some, perhaps, unorthodox snacks recently served at museum and gallery parties.
Unexpected? Yes. But these bacon strips make the perfect savory, crunchy snack. The kick of spice takes it that little bit over the top.
Of course, you could also prepare your morning bacon, bacon sandwich bacon, or salad bacon in this way.
You’ll need:
- smoked bacon
- maple syrup
- red chili flakes
1. Preheat oven to 400F. Line a large baking sheet with foil (you may have to do the bacon in patches, so lay out and prep another sheet/piece of foil with the bacon that doesn’t fit on the first one).
2. Lay out the bacon, side by side. Use a pastry brush to brush on an even layer of maple syrup on each piece, then sprinkle with red chili flakes.
3. Cook for 15-20 minutes, until bacon is cooked through and starting to crisp up. Use tongs to remove the bacon from the pan and let cool and crisp on a drying rack.
Serve, and watch it disappear.
Looks delicious! sounds like a very good combination of tastes!
Thanks, Anne!

Can I vote for bacon as the ingredient of the month? This looks fantastic.
It may alienate the veggies :).
