Yesterday, Leah and I stopped by the Eat Pie Shop fundraiser bake sale at PS29 in Brooklyn. There was a wide expanse of pies – savory, creamy, nutty and fruity – baked by kids, their parents and various local eateries (such as Bubby’s, Baked or four twenty blackbirds).
These were to be eaten and enjoyed or, in the case of celebrity Top Chef Just Desserts judges and a handful of cadets, rated and deliberated over. Gail Simmons, Dannielle Kyrillos, Jeff Lederman and Francois Payard took their jobs very seriously (we eavesdropped) and first place went to a pecan pie.
We had one savory piece (sausage cheese quiche), a creamy (Bubby’s peanut butter and chocolate) and a fruity (apple and cranberry) but it was so hard to choose!
Kids did great and I’m sure the school raised a lot of money. Best of all, it seemed like it really brought the community together. We had a great time and I am definitely going back next year!
