There is something so satisfying about gathering fruit and vegetables from your own garden or berries and mushrooms from the forest. It’s a very popular Russian past-time, and when I am here in the fall or late summer, I make sure to go mushroom picking as much as I can.
Granted, it’s not that difficult, considering that my parents’ house is surrounded by miles of forest, but it is pretty competitive and you have to get out there as early in the morning as you can. The weather this weekend – a mixture of sun and clouds, a little light drizzle – has been perfect for mushrooms.
Yesterday my uncle made mushroom and potato pie, and we made some mushroom soup today that I hope to share with you tomorrow.

Oh my gosh!!! I am soooo jealous! I used to go mushroom picking every fall with my Mum when I was living in Poland… I miss those days so much! Lovely little mushroom!

I am glad it was able to take you back to a fun time! I don’t get to do this often, but when I do, I love mushroom picking. A lot of the wild mushrooms for sale in the UK (where I used to live) came from Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe.
