It is definitely autumnal here – the skies are grey, the leaves yellow, and the food hearty and warming. All I want to do today is sit in front of the fire with one of my favorite books (The Great Gatsby, naturally), wrapped up in a plaid throw, and sipping a cuppa.
While I am here, I thought I would point you in the direction of a few other Russian recipes on s&h:
- Vinegret – a classic Russian beet salad
- Meat pie – with beet chard, garlic, and parsley
- Apple charlotte a la russe – apple cake with crispy meringue top
- Strawberry & farmers’ cheese crumble
- Crab and rice salad with sweetcorn – another Russian holiday staple
- Beet salad – with garlic, walnuts, and prunes (you will love it)
- Eggplant caviar
Have a lovely weekend!

That’s the one downside to Russian food: their extensive use of beets! Oh, well.
