So the FFWD assignment this week called for scallops and this is a bit of a fib because these aren’t scallops, these are shrimp – my mom doesn’t love scallops and I was cooking dinner for her so used some jumbo (U12, Chef Ted!) shrimp instead.
I loved the sauce (actually, I found it entirely addictive) – I used pink grapefruit instead of orange juice, and it gave the light tropical flavor an even deeper dimension. Final verdict: this would be great with scallops or shrimp.
I sprinkled a little pink Himalayan salt on top of the shrimp to finish it off.
I love your idea of using grapefruit! Genius! I have some of the sauce left and I think I will try it on shrimp tomorrow!
Thanks, Monica! The grapefruit worked really well – I may never go back to orange:)!
The shrimp look great! I might give that a try next time. I love shrimp.
Thanks, Renee!
Love the thought of doing this with grapefruit! Thanks for the inspiration.
Let me know if you give it a try! I have to admit I love grapefruit so much, I’m always excited for more ways to use it:).
I love how you used the sauce with shrimp and that you used grapefruit juice-DELICIOUS idea and I will make next time w/shrimp:)
Yay! Let me know how you like it – I think you will – I’m definitely looking for more ways to use the sauce, it’s so delicious.
I was thisclose of using pink grapefruit, but decided to go with orange instead. I will definitely consider trying it ‘your way’ with the shrimp and the grapefruit. Happy weekend!
I’m sure it is delicious either way but happy to hear you are thinking of giving it a try!
I did not try the recipe because we do not
like scallops. I thought about either shrimp
or cod but ended up doing nothing. But
seeing your pictures, I think I might give
shrimp a chance. Tricia made the scallops
and her family enjoyed them. Great job,
I love your photo.

Hi, Nana! So happy you stopped by :). I would definitely recommend the sauce if you decide to give it a try with another protein or shellfish. My mom didn’t want scallops either which is how I ended up trying this recipe with shrimp and I’m happy I did!
Why oh why did I not consider SHRIMP !! Actually I am laughing because if not for this recipe, I probably would have lived my life without trying scallops. So very glad you mentioned shrimp because we have that often and I can’t wait to try this sauce again. Thx !!
haha well, as I said, I am glad you gave scallops a try! And your family were all very receptive to new things!
Grapefruit juice is an interesting adaptation. I’ll have to try this with shrimp sometime.
Thanks! Let me know how you like it if you do.
Your shrimp with grapefruit sauce looks really good. I didn’t love the orange sauce, but wonder if grapefruit would have made me like it better. Very nice!
Thanks for the comments, Betsy! Sorry you didn’t love this week’s recipe, hope the quinoa salad proves to be more of a hit next week :).
Nice variations – I think this sauce would be great with a number of different proteins. It’s so easy, I’m looking forward to experimenting.
Thanks, Teresa! I agree, and I’m eager to try the sauce in other dishes!
Love how you used grapefruit instead of the orange! The star of this recipe was definitely the sauce and honesty I prefer shrimp over scallops 🙂
I agree – this sauce is a new favorite staple for me!
Ooooh, I definitely have to try this variation! I loved the scallops but I definitely might try this with shrimp next time. And I love the idea of using pink grapefruit juice – sounds really yummy!
Thanks, Sara! The grapefruit juice definitely gave it a bit more of a bright, zingy flavor.
